Mosiah 9:10-19 Zeniff Fights the Lamanites

Search: How were Zeniff and his people able to have such success against the Lamanites? Find another example in the Book of Mormon where the people had great success in battle because they trusted in the Lord and were obedient. This should be pretty easy because the Book of Mormon is FULL of examples of this. What will happen if they forget the Lord?

Mosiah 9:1-9 Zeniff Returns to Lehi-Nephi

Tell the story of Zeniff returning to the land of Lehi-Nephi in pictures. Have an older child or adult person draw a map of the journey from Zarahemla to Lehi-Nephi and then back again. Have someone else draw a picture of the battle between the men of Zeniff's party to determine if they would fight the Lamanites or make a treaty with them. Have someone draw a picture of Zeniff's people rebuilding the walls of Lehi-Nephi. Have someone else draw a picture of them tilling the land.

Search: Who was Zeniff? The previous 2 chapters also make mention of him. If the Nephites were originally in the land of Lehi-Nephi, when did they leave? Find the verses where it describes them leaving the Land of Lehi-Nephi. Have some family members search for descriptions of Zeniff while the rest try to find where the Nephites left the land of Lehi-Nephi.

Mosiah 8:13-17 What is a Seer?

Discussion: Ask members of the family before you read these verses, and then again after:
What is a seer? Is a seer greater than a prophet? Is there a seer on the Earth today? If so, who?

Mosiah 8:7-9 - 24 Plates

Search: Using the footnotes and other references, find out what was contained on the 24 plates. Even if you already know what is contained on the plates, prove it by reading a scripture that explains the history of the 24 plates. Who is the author of the plates?

Activity: Continue to act out the events in this chapter. The kids can switch parts or keep the same parts.

Mosiah 7:1-7 Ammon Seeks Land of Nephi

Activity: Allow the kids to act out these verses as you or someone else who is a good reader narrates by reading the verses.

2. Members of Ammon's company
3. King Mosiah
4. King of the Land of Nephi (we find out his name next time)
5. Guards of the Land of Nephi
   

Find things around the house that will allow them to have a little costume and make the play more authentic. You might put a robe on the king and give Ammon and the members of his company a map, a compass, a backpack, or some other camping gear. They can use a blanket to pitch a tent. Unless you have a very large family, your kids will have to play more than 1 part. More fun for them, right?
