Mosiah 22:4-11 Limhi Escapes the Lamanites

Activity: Act out these verses. Parts: Gideon, Limhi, Lamanites, and Limhi's people. Give the kids a couple of minutes beforehand to go find some sort of costume. You can have one person be narrator and read these verses as you act them out. Or you can have each person read his/her part as you act them out:

Gideon: v4,7
Limhi: v5,9
Lamanites: v6,10
Limhi's People: v8,11

Mosiah 21:23-29 Limhi Discovers Ammon

Find the verses where these engravings are interpreted.

Who is it that can interpret them? What is contained on these engravings?

Mosiah 21:12-17

Play Simon Says. Just like in Simon Says, when you are in bondage, you do whatever your captor tells you to. But unlike Simon Says, bondage is not at all fun. Why did the Lord not yet see fit to deliver them from bondage? By being in bondage, how were the people of Limhi strengthened both temporally and spiritually (v16-17)?

Mosiah 21:1-12 Limhi's People Persecuted

Verse 4 says that it "was done that the word of the Lord might be fulfilled." What was the word of the Lord that was being fulfilled? Can you find the verses that mention it? How was His word being fulfilled?

Mosiah 20:12-26 Lamanite King Pleads for Nephites

Make a list of the things that Gideon has done that have helped the people of King Limhi, beginning with the events described in these verses. If you can't remember, look back over previous chapters, particularly at the chapter headings, and see if you can find them.

Will Gideon make any contributions in the future? What contributions if any?

Mosiah 20:1-11 Abduction of the Lamanite Daughters

Activity: While you take turns reading these verses, everyone else can draw a picture of the Lamanite daughters dancing while the priests of Noah watch in hiding. If you have a white board, everyone can draw together. If not, you can each draw your own picture. This is not the only trouble that the priests of King Noah will cause for the Nephites. Do you remember any other problems that they cause?

Mosiah 19:4,8,16-17 Gideon vs Noah vs Limhi

Search: Before telling everyone which verses you will read, have each person "search the scriptures". Chapter 19 contains verses that give us insight into the personalities of Gideon, Noah, and Limhi. See if your kids can find them. If your kids have a hard time finding them, the verses are listed above.

Make 3 columns on a whiteboard or piece of paper to compare and contrast these 3 men. In each column list their qualities as described in chapter 19. Which of the men exhibit Christlike qualities? What are their Christlike qualities? Which of the men do you want to strive to be like? Why?

Now list the differences between the 3 men. Which of the men are you most like? Did you note the contrast between Limhi and Gideon? Limhi knew that his father was not a good guy, but didn't try to do anything about it as far as we know. Gideon wanted to kill King Noah. Obviously the people of Limhi had big problems (heavy taxes, Lamanite opression, etc). Can you think of anything else (besides killing the king) that they could have done to fix the problems?

Mosiah 18:11-15 Baptism of Alma and Helam

Activity: If you have children that are nearing baptism, show them how the ordinance is performed. This can often alleviate some fears about baptism.

Discussion: How were Alma and Helam baptized? Ask your younger children: Is that how you will be baptized?

What did Alma say in his prayer that he and Helam covenant to do? Ask your children: Is that the covenant you will make when you are baptized?

Mosiah 18:11-18 Baptism of Alma and Helam

Cross-reference: 5th Article of Faith. "A man must be called of God...by the laying on of hands." It is not recorded how Alma received his authority. But it clearly states in both verse 13 and verse 18 that he had authority from God. How do you think Alma received his authority?

There are several explanations - an angel ordained him (like Joseph Smith), or he found Abinadi after he ran away from the court of King Noah, or perhaps he found the Land of Zarahemla and received authority from someone there. The fact of the matter is that it is not stated in the Book of Mormon, so we don't know. This is an opportunity to explain to your children that it's alright not have an answer to every question. We only need to know the Gospel basics to be saved.

Mosiah 18:8-10 What Have You Against Being Baptized?

Have the little ones commit verse 10 to memory. Have the older kids memorize all 3 verses. Who in your has entered into this same covenant? Have each person ask himself, do I still feel the same way? If not, why not?
